Porn, guns, and booze are the cause of nearly all societal ills. At least that’s what the establishment wants you to think. Seriously, pay attention to the news sometime and see how often those three things are cited as the reason person X did activity Y to person Z.
The secret nobody tells you is that for the establishment to remain established it is necessary to lay blame at the feet of someone or something when the best-laid plans go wrong. Without a convenient boogie man to take the fall, the power structure is powerless to exert control over the masses in the form of draconian rules and regulations. Needless to say, personal responsibility is the enemy of the establishment.
Why does all this matter? Well, for lovers of porn, Shane’s World has found itself at the center of the struggle between laying blame and personal responsibility for almost a decade. Formerly owned by the former wife of the infamous Seymour Butts, the company has been in business since 1996. Though they were one of the first companies to do reality style porn, it was their infiltration of college campuses that raised the ire of those in charge of higher education and simultaneously rocketed the company to super-stardom.
Inevitably, when word spread that porn stars were crashing frat parties and fucking drunk, rowdy boys while the cameras rolled, the shit storm soon followed.
First, parents were up in arms. According to one account, the family of one student broke down when they found out she was partying with the crew and forced her to watch her performance with them as sort of an aversion therapy.
Second, participating students at various campuses were threatened with suspension, expulsion or worse. For instance, an Arizona State University student who appeared in Shane’s World 29: Frat Row Scavenger Hunt 3, was kicked out of his Sigma Nu frat house. According to a Rolling Stone magazine article:
The university barred him from living on ASU property, prohibited him from university employment and put him on permanent probation. They also made him write four apology letters, do 100 hours of community service and write a twenty-page paper with the somber title: “Reflections on Integrity.”
As Vice President of the student body, he then resigned his post, only after weeks of stress, legal hell and physical threats from students and strangers. The same thing took place Indiana University, site of the first official College Invasion film.
At Chico State University, site of the College Invasion 6 movie, the antics of some resulted in more suspensions and expulsions, while the offending fraternity house had their charter suspended for a year.
Third, administrators decried the company in the media, claiming they were exploiting the university and its students for profit. The story was featured on CNN, MTV, Dateline NBC, The O’Reilly Factor, The Tyra Banks Show, and in USA Today and Time Magazine. Meanwhile, Shane’s World maintained its innocence, suggesting that the university had its head buried in the sand when it came to the perception that teenage and early twenty-somethings didn’t engage in this kind of behavior anyway. The company claimed it was legally within its rights and merely creating documentaries of what really goes on at college campuses.
Whatever your personal beliefs about the issue, Shane’s World continues to push out real porn, starring real college kids fucking real porn stars. Campus Invasion 10, the film covered here, was filmed at Plattsburg State in NY and is one of the most-viewed titles in our VOD.
