CNBC Names Top Porn Stars

CNBC.com recently featured the top 12 performers in the adult industry in an article called, “The Dirty Dozen: Porn’s Most Popular Stars.”

By Chris Morris, Special to CNBC.com

Popularity in the porn industry is often fleeting. Some performers experience a meteoric rise and fall in the course of a year. Others connect with the audience on a different level and manage a multi-year ride at the top.

Though there is no real formula for success in this industry, these 12 performers have proven to be more than just a flash in the pan, with tremendous staying power over the past few years. What’s more there are no signs their careers are in danger of waning anytime soon.

So, with the industry’s annual expo underway in Las Vegas Jan. 6-9, we’ve assembled porn’s dirty dozen—the most popular porn stars, based on our reporting and analysis.

Ashlynn Brooke: Brooke has been working in adult films for nearly five years, earning multiple award nominations. She also appeared in last year’s “Piranha 3D,” which has helped escalate her earlier porn films.  These days, however, she’s focusing more on work behind the camera, directing parody-film versions of “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Wonder Woman”.

Jenna Haze: The 28-year-old Haze is arguably the most popular performer in the porn today. She has been nominated for the “Female Performer of the Year” award for three years running at the AVN Awards (porn’s equivalent of the Oscars).   Haze also picked up a similar nomination at the 2009 Xbiz Awards. Meanwhile, she is one of the most popular stars with members of the Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network (AEBN)

Jesse Jane: Jane is, for many, the face of modern porn. She was one of the top-line stars of the smash “Pirates” films (two of the biggest porn movies of all time).  Jane is also hosting this year’s AVN red-carpet ceremony and received performer of the year nods in 2009 and 2010. She’s nominated for the same category in this year’s Xbiz Awards, which she will also host.

Lisa Ann: The 38-year-old Lisa Ann had a run in the 1990s as a porn actress, but quit in 1997, eventually returning as an agent.   In 2008, though, her meteoric rise to fame came when she portrayed Sarah Palin in a porn parody. She has since gone on to be one of the most popular on-demand stars with AEBN.

Evan Stone: Ron Jeremy is the industry’s most famous male performer, but 46-year old Stone could be his successor.   His sense of humor makes him one of the most popular leading men in the industry among female performers – and fans enjoy a male actor who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Tori Black: A three-year veteran of the industry with more than 200 film s under her belt, Black began as a Penthouse Pet.  She won 2010’s AVN performer of the year award and is nominated again in 2011. The story’s the same with the Xbiz Awards. And, like Haze, Black is one of the top stars at AEBN. Among her highlights in 2010 was a spin as Catwoman in Vivid’s incredibly popular “Batman XXX: A Porn Parody”

Bobbi Starr: A finalist in “America’s Next Hot Porn Star,” Starr failed to win the 2007 pay-per-view reality show, but that hasn’t slowed her rise. She has racked up more than half a dozen awards and may be the industry’s next crossover star, having been cast in the upcoming film “Drive” with Ryan Gosling, Albert Brooks and Christina Hendricks.

Lexi Belle: One of the younger superstars of the industry at 23, Belle has earned top-performer nods for two years running from AVN and Xbiz.   She is, perhaps, even more popular with the Web audience, which has made her website one of the biggest in the industry.

Kayden Kross: Kross has been a contract star with both of the production firms Adam & Eve and Digital Playground, making her one of today’s most in demand stars.  She will cohost this year’s AVN red carpet with Jesse Jane and is nominated for best performer for the second consecutive year.

Belladonna: While Belladonna appears to be stepping back from performing in porn films, this 29-year old actor/director/producer has one of the most loyal fan bases in the industry. Both straight men and lesbian women have kept Belladonna among the most popular stars – even when she shaved her head. She has been nominated for 42 AVN awards (and won 10) through the course of her career.

Sasha Grey: Grey’s not actively making porn films at the moment, but her push into mainstream acting – including a lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s 2008 film “The Girlfriend Experience”, and a recurring role on HBO’s “Entourage” – has kept her porn works popular.  Several companies are also putting out compilation titles with select scenes of her uninhibited past, which fans continue to buy.

Joanna Angel: Like Belladonna, Angel owns her studio – meaning she makes money from sales, not just performances.  The punk look she and her actors share has given rise to a new segment in the industry, dubbed alt porn.

Bobbi Starr Discusses Mainstream Role in ‘Drive’

via our friends at xBiz

LOS ANGELES — Adult performer Bobbi Starr recently landed her first role in a mainstream feature film, acting in a scene for director Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive” earlier this month.

Performer Andy San Dimas, who like Starr is represented by agent Mark Spiegler, also secured a speaking part in the movie that is due out in theaters in 2011.

“Drive” stars Carey Mulligan (“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”), Ryan Gosling (“Lars and the Real Girl” ) and Albert Brooks (“Broadcast News”) in a film about a Hollywood stuntman who discovers that a contract has been put on his life after a heist gone wrong.

The Danish director Refn previously helmed movies such as “Bronson,” “Valhalla Rising” and the “Pusher” trilogy.

Starr, the reigning back-to-back winner of the XRCO Award for Superslut, is well established as one of adult’s bankable hardcore performers with more than 250 movie credits in her four-year career. She recently appeared in “Bat FXXX” and “Bonny & Clide” for Bluebird Films and “Tori, Tarra and Bobbi Love Rocco” earlier this year for Evil Angel.

Starr, who was a professional oboe player before beginning her adult film career, talked to XBIZ about her experience on the set of “Drive.”

What was your impression of the audition? Where did you have to go for it and who did you read for?

I went through two different auditions. One out in Santa Monica and the other in Beechwood Canyon.

The first was with a casting director. She and I laughed about how she had no experience with the adult industry and the previous day she got a ‘crash course’ and is pleasantly surprised by the outcome. That was pretty much all of the industry talk’ we had. The rest of the time we talked about my past as a professional musician and what my future hopes were. She was incredibly approachable and a joy to talk to. Probably the most comfortable audition I’ve ever been on.

The second time around I met with the director himself, Nicolas Refn. I was a bit nervous, I’m a huge fan of his movie “Bronson,” it’s brilliant. But little to my knowledge it was also a soul-warming experience. We sat down with a woman named Rachel, who was incredibly sweet and adorable and, again, just talked. Eventually I asked him, ‘Why porn? Why are you looking for a porn girl?’

From what I gathered I found it to be a funny story. One of the lead characters, Blanch (who I originally read for) gets a kick by being around criminals. Refn was disappointed in the casting call of American mainstream actors. He felt they just didn’t have ‘it.’ So, in turn he gave instructions that he only wanted to see strippers, porn stars and gangsters to read for parts.

However what drew both Refn and the casting director to me was that I don’t look like a porn star. When I’m off the clock, I dress casually — you might even say I’m conservative when it comes to clothes. When I came in to read, I didn’t wear anything different. I assumed that I didn’t get it, but they called me back.

Refn said he noticed that I was part of the adult industry but that I didn’t look it. The first thing the casting director noticed was that my shirt was buttoned up to my collar bone. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover now makes complete sense to me.

What is the role of ‘Shonda?’

Shonda is in a bad place in her life and in an even worse marriage. She’s abused but stays around because she has battered wife syndrome. The fights they get into gets the attention of one of the leads, Bernie Rose (played by Albert Brooks), who lives in a neighboring apartment, becomes fed up with the conflict and comes upstairs to check on Shonda, and then threatens to kill the husband.

The role is against grain — I’m pretty outspoken about my feminist leanings and there’s no way I’d be in a relationship like that, let alone allow it to continue. But I think that’s why it works as a role. I had a great experience playing this role and working with Refn, Albert Brooks and the other cast and crew. Such an amazing group of people to be around. I was in a new ocean. Asking all sorts of questions and listening to everyone’s past experiences. I had a beautiful time on the set of ‘Drive.’

What other mainstream stuff have you done?

I’ve been involved with the Nerdcore calendar and participated in a handful of comedy shows but as for large, Hollywood projects like this, I’ve never really thrown my hat in the ring. But I’m very pleased and impressed that this was my first real foray into the mainstream movie business.

What’s the next adult movie we can see you in?

I’m still banging out those parodies, just like everyone else. I’m in Zero Tolerance’s ‘Official Wife Swap Parody,’ Vivid’s ‘Beautiful Strangers’ directed by the incredibly talented Kimberly Kane, as well as New Sensations ‘Sex & The City: The Original XXX Parody.’ Of course, there are some other projects I’m just dying to tell you but I have to wait until the official press releases come out so stay tuned.

Sex and the City: The Original XXX Parody

New Sensations released its latest parody offering on the AEBN network today: Sex and the City: The Original XXX Parody, a spin-off of the hit HBO show.

Directed by Lee Roy Myers—his last parody for the company—Sex and the City: The Original XXX Parody stars Kayla Paige as Carrie Bradshaw, Bobbi Starr as Charlotte York, Zoe Voss as Miranda Hobbes and AVN Hall of Famer in her comeback role Brittany Andrews as Samantha Jones.

“While the stars of the movie are Kayla, Bobbi, Zoe and Brittany, [designer labels] Cavalli, Dior and Cartier have a large supporting role,” Belle Casten, New Sensations’ vice president of global sales, said. “Sex and the City: The Original XXX Parody offers all the shoes, dresses, purses and gossip, which made the HBO show so popular with women. It also reveals we can be just as racy and sex-crazed as the boys. The mix of class and crudeness appeals to both.”

“The trailer is amazing,” Andrews said. “It shows off all the sexiness and humor that motivated me to make a comeback. I couldn’t turn down the role; I was born to play Samantha!”

The plot follows Carrie, who’s asked by longtime beau Mr. Big to move away with him. Her entire sexual life flashes before her eyes. How can Carrie leave New York City? The city is where she had her first threesome … and foursome … and train. Carrie refined her oral techniques uptown and discovered the thrill of handcuffs and whips on the Lower East Side. Is existence outside of NYC even possible without Carrie’s three best friends, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha? Despite all of Carrie’s reasons to stay, she does have one big reason to leave—10 inches big.

Performers of the Year 2010

This is a movie that’s been out since the first of the year but I just now got a chance to talk about it cause I’ve been so busy with the other porn these babes have been in! Jenna Haze, Alexis Texas, Bobbi Starr, Tori Black, Kagney Linn Karter, Julia Ann, and Kristina Rose are here to show why Elegant Angel named them Performers of the Year 2010. It ain’t the same as the AVN or XRCO or whatever awards shows say, but you know Tori was named Performer of the Year for AVN, XBIZ, XRCO, and F.A.M.E. this year. Jenna Haze won the same awards at most of those same letter-named places last year and some of these other girls are for sure gonna have to win sometime. Some of ‘em got nominated a few times.

Tori is one of the prettiest dirty girls ever and she goes after Mark Ashley’s cock like a starving woman who found a sausage.  Kristina is all bendy while Mick Blue pounds her and she gives him a footjob. Alexis launches into a fuck with Johnny Sins that looks like they’d do it even with no camera there. Julia Ann is the AVN MILF/Cougar Performer of the Year 2010, she’s hot as ever, and she’s fucking AVN Male Performer of the Year Manuel Ferrara. I heard all the girls love him so maybe these chicks drew straws or had a catfight to see who got to do the scene with him. They are great at fucking each other!

Next is Jenna, who worships Michael Stefano’s dick, slobbing the knob and getting stuffed so good she turns into a dirty talking whore. Kagney is the newest girl here and if she ain’t a huge name yet, just wait. Fucking like she does here, with last year’s AVN Male Performer of the Year James Deen, is good enough to make her a star along with her hot body and face. Last but not least with a scene that takes up most of the bonus disc is Bobbi, who rivals Tori for prettiest dirty girl ever. Even with her hair shorter she is still total sex. Mark Ashley does her in the throat, pussy, and ass. Her beautiful face looks even better with a load in her mouth.

These are some of the best porn sluts around right now and they’re all in one movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet you need to stop whatever you’re doing and give your cock the jerk of a lifetime.
